It’s all about a honey! Learn about bees during a festival this weekend

It’s a weekend outing with a difference. This Saturday, join obliged transport company, The Western Routes for a sugar bee festival that will learn we all about a bees, how to collect honey, their charge and their ecological significance.

“Bhorgiri and Yelavali, dual villages in Bhimashankar, have come together to widespread recognition about a rearing of bees, by this festival, that is upheld by a NGO Kalpavriksh and us,” says Jayesh Paranjape, owner of The Western Routes. “The thought is to deliver people to normal honey-harvesting practices, that while good for medium charge and revival, are not wholly sustainable.”

The timberland in and around a Bhimashankar Wildlife Sanctuary provides provision to a Mahadeo Koli tribes and other normal timberland dwellers. Honey is one of a vital NTFP (Non Timber Forest Produce) that is harvested from a Indian Hive Honey Bee and a Giant Rock Honey Bee. Honey harvesting customarily starts in midst or late March.

The bees nest in dark, dark spots, and make a lot of sound when foraging, so harvesters, who conduct into a timberland during dawn, follow a sound to locate a hives.

Participants get to follow villagers in a timberland and declare a routine of harvesting sugar from beehives, correlate with a women’s self assistance organisation in Bhorgiri and buy jars of internal honey. The two-day outing will also underline a protocol that involves doing a puja of a honey.

“This will give people a possibility to correlate with villagers, and learn about a problems faced by sugar harvesters. We will also plead sugar bees and their significance in a region,” adds Paranjape.

If a bees don’t get your hum going, we could trek to Konkan Kada for a pleasing perspective of a hollow and sunset, and try a Bhorgad Fort and caves. In addition, we also get to stay in tents during Yelavali and knowledge farming life.
