Shabana, daughter of producer Kaifi Azmi and theatre singer Shaukat Azmi, done her film entrance in 1974 with “Ankur” and shortly became one of a heading actresses of together cinema. She has won 5 National Film Awards for Best Actress and several general honours. She was also lauded with a Padma Shri, India’s fourth top municipal honour of a country.
