Cairo: The General Staff of a Syrian Army on Thursday pronounced it had recaptured a ancient city of Palmyra from a nonconformist organisation Islamic State (IS). The city, that is home to Greco-Roman hull on a UNESCO World Heritage list, had been a stage of complicated fighting for months.

“Units from a armed forces, in team-work with a allies, have recovered a city of Tadmur (Palmyra in Arabic) and a surrounding area,” pronounced a Syrian Army authority in a matter published. The units, led by Iranian and Russia, entered a city on Thursday, 3 months after IS took it over.

Earlier in a day, many IS combatants withdrew from Palmyra. In their retreat, a terrorists planted mines in several points of a city. SANA reliable that army engineering units have distant explosives and mines planted by IS fighters in a area.
