Obituary: Samina Syed passes away

LAHORE: Samina Hassan Syed, a Punjabi thespian and song teacher, upheld away. She had been pang from bad health for scarcely 6 months.

She is best remembered for her role, alongside her father Najam Hussain Syed, in holding a weekly entertainment to sing and plead Punjabi communication but a mangle for 40 years.

The gathering, Sangat, had started as a assembly of Punjabi communication enthusiasts during a couple’s residence on Jail Road. It had given continued during several venues each week on Fridays.

Sangats would start with her singing of exemplary Punjabi poems. After a singing, Najam would pronounce about a poems. Then, Samina would give singing lessons to a participants.

Sangat could be deliberate as a tact belligerent of intellectuals compared with a Punjabi movement, her associates say.

Samina Syed had learnt singing from Ustad Chotay Ghulam Ali. She had played a wilful purpose in a investiture of a Musicology Department during College of Home Economics, Gulberg, during her days as a song teacher.

Huma Safdar, a travel entertainment artist, pronounced Samina was a good thespian and song teacher. “Her voice was musical and powerful,” she said.

Dr Nusrat, one of Samina’s tighten companions, pronounced that Samina frequently sang Punjabi communication during weekly Sangats compartment her health deteriorated. “She was a kind and inexhaustible person. She hosted many song students during her home and attended to their needs,” she said.
