New York: NRI sues play who refused to sell Mercedes over ‘Taliban’ fear
- Updated: August 10, 2016
New York: An Indian-American has sued a New Jersey automobile dealership for $1.26 million, alleging it refused to sell him a swanky Mercedes Benz since a manager suspicion he came from a “high-risk area” and he competence boat a automobile to a Taliban.
Surjeet Bassi, 50, claims a manager during Prestige Motors told him that he came from a “high-risk area” where people buy cars and trade them to a Taliban. Bassi, who has lived in New Jersey for 30 years, pronounced he told a manager he is Indian and not connected to a Islamic fundamentalist organisation, NJ.com quoted from a sovereign lawsuit. Spokeswoman Theresa V Boylan pronounced in a statement, “As a company, we do not acquit discriminatory practices or conduct. Out of honour for a routine and all parties, it is a process not to criticism on tentative authorised matters.”
Bassi pronounced he wanted to trade his Mercedes-Benz ML350 for a newer model. He claims he had negotiated a price, upheld a credit check and charged $1,000 to his label for a down payment. But that was when a manager called him and said, ‘I’m sorry, we can’t sell we a car,’ and afterwards explained why.
