Mumbai Food: New Colaba grill offers authentic Asian fare

If we have mourned a miss of spaces in South Mumbai charity peculiarity Asian fare, you’re in luck. Say hello to Jia, a new grill in Colaba that promises to heal those low sum cravings.

Helmed by Neville Vazifdar, who brought us a Royal China code 14 years ago, Jia exudes an atmosphere of certainty that usually comes with experience. To start with, Vazifdar has snatched adult primary skill for his baby. Nestled in a ancestral Dhanraj Mahal, Jia replaces a flagship outpost of LPQ.

Step into a restaurant, and your eyes are drawn upwards to a sheer white, beehive-inspired roof that inches downwards, not distinct a stalactite formation.

While comparison kin Royal China focuses on Cantonese cuisine, Jia brings in Japanese and Thai transport as well, giving we an endless menu to flip through. If that wasn’t enough, there’s also an additional menu for vegetarians.

Vazifdar says he prefers to use alien mixture from around a world. Among other things, we can design edamame from Japan, chillies from Thailand, truffles from Italy, and Berkshire Pork from a UK.

If you’re looking for a light lunch, try a Jia Special Roll (R725). It facilities 8 uramaki rolls with crispy prawn tempura and a house-made sauce, draped with avocado slices.

The Truffle Edamame Dumpling (R575) is pressed with tawny edamame crush and a hold of truffle. The winning plate is a Crispy Duck Salad (R775), that marries crunchy, plum-sweetened steep with a zesty lemongrass sauce.

Among a mains, a Five Treasure Mushroom Fried Rice with Truffle Oil (R975) stands out, and, nonetheless easily buttered, it’s deceptively light. For those who adore their curries, a Vegetable Thai Green Curry (R575) here has a right volume of heat, offset by abounding coconut milk.

We usually wish a desserts had bowled us over too.
