Butter duck could good be deliberate a (unofficial) inhabitant dish. People from a North will sneer during versions accessible in a South; many chefs will have their chronicle of it, and we all have that one crony whose mom creates a best butter duck in a world.

Now, another contender to join this flourishing list of butter duck champions-to-be, is a newly launched Butter Chicken Factory (BCF). On a bustling and stormy Saturday afternoon, we braved weekend trade to make a approach to Bandra. My companion, a mom of two, loves a butter duck and was fervent to know if this was a place she could revisit with her children.

BCF is a infrequent diner, with tables packaged tighten in a little space with an open kitchen. There was latticed horizon on a walls, a latest Hindi song played on a speakers and low lighting set a mood. It felt good and cosy even yet we were surrounded by college kids deliberating binge examination TV shows and Breaking Bad.

Taste test
On a manager’s recommendation, we systematic a Desi Grilled Chicken (‘195 for half plate). The image didn’t demeanour appealing — white duck pieces with immature masala, charred on a edges — though one punch and we were in love. The duck crumbled during touch, and had a lovely, hazed ambience extended by a elementary herb marinade.

We were served dual versions of Dahi ke Kebab (‘235). The initial came sprinkled with so most chaat masala, it was all we could taste. Our waiter afterwards got us a chronicle though it fared better. The hung spread was soothing and unsound and a cardamom and coriander gave it a good though light masala flavour.

There was usually one categorical image to order, a Butter Chicken (‘310). It was an normal image — a gravy was tawny and had a slow benevolence that masked any spirit of spice; a duck had that identical smoky, charry taste. We deserted a curry and instead, focussed on a Chur Naan (Rs 125), a damaged and stately disaster of naan pressed with paneer, potatoes and surfaced with chillies and garlic. It was a image in itself and we did it probity by eating it plain.

Since we desired a beef dishes we had, we systematic another main. The Mutton Tikka Tava (‘385) had pulled raan beef that didn’t demeanour or ambience appealing. The image was sharp and some of a beef was underdone and chewy.

Gulkand Ice Cream

Sweet nothings
For dessert, we played it safe. The Gulkand Malai Ice Cream (‘125) tasted as good as it looked. The dip of ice cream was served on a betel root and rose petal, and surfaced with chewy caramelised pieces of gulkand. The ice cream was tawny and had an heated rose petal essence and aroma that helped us forget a strenuous sweetness. The Gulab Jamun (‘105) didn’t demeanour as flattering though tasted improved — a little jamun balls were honeyed though lacked adequate of sugarine syrup. This, of course, meant we finished a whole image in a twinkling and were left wanting more.

Did BCF compare adult to other butter duck places? No. We’ve tasted improved butter duck down a road, during Khane Khas and during inexpensive bars in Chembur. We will return, however, for a Desi Grilled Chicken, a unsound Chur Naan and a cloying rush of Gulab Jamuns.

Butter Chicken Factory didn’t know we were there. The Guide reviews anonymously and pays for meals.
