Joe Root, Alastair Cook propel England to 314-4 opposite Pakistan

Manchester: England were 314 for four, after winning a toss, during stumps on Day One of a second Test opposite Pakistan during Old Trafford yesterday.

Joe Root was 141 not out and nightwatchman Chris Woakes dual not out. Alastair Cook, a England captain, done 105 and common a second-wicket mount of 185 with Root.
Left-arm quicks Mohammad Amir and Rahat Ali took dual for 63 and dual for 69 respectively in 20 overs each.
But star leg-spinner Yasir Shah bowled 31 wicketless overs on his approach to a lapse of nothing for 111.
