“Have we landed? Has a automobile picked we up? Come on, we know BKC, you’ve been here before,” says Ayaan Ali Bangash, a younger son of Ustad Amjad Ali Khan, to his brother, Amaan, over a call. Amaan has only landed from New Delhi. Taufiq Qureshi joins us and waits with Ayaan during a lunch smorgasboard of Pondicherry Cafe, a excellent sup in Sofitel.

Their families have been friends for generations. “I have played with Ustad ji (Amjad Ali Khan), Ayaan and Amaan. Before Amaan walks in, we can discuss over alaap [the starters],” says a 53-year-old percussionist and younger hermit to tabla conductor Ustad Zakir Hussain.

The sarod players are set to recover an electronic manuscript tracing a debate of a sarod from a rubab (a low-pitched instrument from executive Afghanistan) while Qureshi is operative on a single, where a beats come from instruments done out of rubbish materials.

Wriddhaayan: What is your equation with any other?
Taufiq: We are like brothers. My father [Ustad Allarakha Qureshi] played with his grandfather, Hafiz Ali Khan sahib, and Amjad bhai.
Ayaan: We had backstage entrance to a concerts. We were taught to go and pronounce to musicians, hold their feet and find blessings.
Taufiq: On several occasions, we have motionless what to play on theatre itself. There weren’t any rehearsals. When they play Classical, they hang to a pristine form, respecting a sobriety of their lineage. There is a lane called Blessings [by a brothers], that we unequivocally like.
Ayaan: Whenever we have achieved that lane with Taufiq bhai, he has combined colour to it. We were hardly in a teenagers when we common a theatre with Ustad Zakir Hussain; he didn’t need to do it. In 1999, during Saptak festival in Ahmedabad, Allarakha ji played before us since he wanted to. Then, he watched a whole unison from a wings.

Wriddhaayan: Were we disobedient as kids?
Ayaan: Amaan bhai used to get into some-more trouble. Abba never had a temper. He would simply ask us to go out of a room, though a mom smacked us. Both of us used to antic call musicians [I am not holding names]. Once, we sent a musician to another musician’s residence for dinner. We picked adult a phone and said, ‘Dawaat hai, aa jaiye.’ (laughs)
Taufiq: Talking about memories, we remember Zakir bhai would take me on a cycle to St Michael’s High School in Mahim. He was a shining dhol player. During fairs, he would go and join a rope in processions. we used to tab along. To safeguard we wasn’t lost, he would take me adult on his shoulders. (Food arrives)
Taufiq: (Tasting a Prawn and Mixed Seafood Dimsums) Wow! This is unequivocally good. Generally, we like duck for a protein.
Ayaan: we customised a salad. It is healthy after immature tea.

(Amaan arrives, and brings a image of Stir-Fried Chicken and Prawns and Roasted Chicken)

Wriddhaayan: Why don’t we dual harmonise for films?
Ayaan: Now, there is a opening between exemplary musicians and Bollywood. Directors seem to be gentle with this.
Taufiq: When we are component for films, we need to listen to a producer’s partner too. You need to make 7 tunes for one song. we would never be means to do it. I’ve had offers though we couldn’t govern them.

(The review veers to amicable media)
Ayaan: At times, it gets too much. One man done a trailer of a Dover Lane Music Concert and put adult a disclaimer, ‘Full unison entrance up’. Imagine. Now, artistes can’t repeat their possess tunes.
Taufiq: we can’t even repeat a kurta! They’ll watch a video of a prior unison and contend he’s ragged a same one.
Amaan: Social media also has a disastrous side. Whenever Sanjay Dutt is going to jail, there are cameras outward his house; not when it is his birthday.

Wriddhaayan: All of we debate a lot in a US. What is your take on Trump’s anathema on Muslim-majority nations?
Taufiq: That reminds me, San Francisco airfield is close due to protests opposite Trump. Bhabhi ji (Antonia Minnecola, Zakir Hussain’s wife) is stuck.
Ayaan: Amaan bhai and we never had a problem checking in during airports since we write Bangash in a surname.
Taufiq: even we didn’t have a problem. Zakir bhai and Amjad bhai have had to face issues since they write Khan and Hussain. The Americans aren’t wakeful of Qureshis.
